Stress can feel overwhelming. The way we process external events can lead to physical tension and mental strain. Anxious thoughts can distort thinking, which makes it challenging to find solutions.

Negative or dysfunctional thinking can impair the ability to concentrate, focus, and be productive. Moreover, stressful feelings may prevent your capacity to relax, enjoy downtime, and communicate effectively. In addition to dysfunctional thinking and emotional unrest, stress can manifest in bodily tension, undermine sleep, and precipitate discomfort .

The good news is that learning to become present can help you turn around compulsive thoughts and negative emotions. There is no reason why stress should continue to interfere with your ability to think clearly, be creative, be productive at work, and be fully engaged in relationships.

Through creating a presence practice for yourself, you will discover how to challenge your negative thoughts and replace them with more supportive thinking. With practice, your thoughts start to turn themselves around. As you become more consistently present, you will learn to replace stressful feelings and physical tension so you can feel emotionally centered and physically calm.

Stress can lead to psychological and physiological symptoms including heart palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, and intense fear. Sometimes stressors occur gradually over time or earlier than symptoms appear, so you may think that your problems are purely physiological. It is common when people experience severe stress to sense physical tension, be unable to catch one’s breath, and feel drained of energy.

Together we can help you address the psychological cause while alleviating physical symptoms. Bodily reactions to stress can be due to emotional reactions from a single event or an ongoing situation. Symptoms are the body’s response to intensely fearful thoughts and emotions. By becoming aware of your thoughts and learning to relax and feel at ease about situational triggers, you can break the cycle so that your mind no longer activates such intense visceral reactions.

Supportive language provides an approach that generates supportive responses both internally and externally. When you use supportive language to replace negative self-talk or worried thoughts, you can help change behavioral symptomatic responses and address psychological thoughts that are triggering emotional and physical reactions. In addition, when supportive language is used conversationally, it can helpfully refocus your thoughts, relax your body in response to challenging situations, and cultivate rapport.
